March on Stress conference – thank you

Added on the 24th March 2017

The March on Stress team extends a huge thank you to all those who attended the first March on Stress conference on Wednesday 15 March 2017.

The day ‘Dealing with Stress and Trauma at Work: Evidence and Experience’ brought together a wide range of delegates from a variety of organisations.

Broadcaster and journalist Sian Williams started the day with a fascinating keynote, providing an insight into the impact of trauma for those working in the media. Delegates then heard from Dr Sally Coomber, of Public Health England and the Society of Occupational Medicine, who discussed mental health in the workplace from an Occupational Physician’s perspective.

Carrie Birmingham of Carrie Birmingham Consult spoke about her experience of crisis HR and the impact on culture, while Nick Hitch gave a very moving account of his experience of PTSD after he was caught up in a terrorist incident.

Dr James Rubin and our own Director, Professor Neil Greenberg, brought facts, figures and insight with their sessions on social support for mental health and removing stigma and barriers to care.

March on Stress Operations Director Gavin Rogers, together with Lead Trainer Roy Scott MBE, introduced a discussion session which featured a panel of speakers with a huge range and wealth of experience. The panel discussed and took questions on their experiences and approaches to peer support, including TRiM (Trauma Risk Management) and StRaW (Sustaining Resilience at Work).

Professor Neil Greenberg said: “The day was a great opportunity to bring together delegates from a number of organisations under the shared subject of mental health in the workplace. It was heartening to see and hear such commitment to supporting staff in the workplace from those in attendance.”
