Professor Neil Greenberg will deliver a keynote speech at the International Conference on Trauma and Mental Health 2017 – taking place in Jerusalem, Israel, this week.
The 2017 event is titled ‘advances in diagnosis and management’, with Professor Greenberg delivering a session on ‘mental health screening and peer support in the armed forces: what’s the evidence?’.
Professor Greenberg is an internationally renowned trauma expert who is a past President of the UK Psychological Trauma Society and Secretary of the European Society of Traumatic Stress Studies. During the final years of his service in the Royal Navy, Professor Greenberg was the UK Armed Forces’ mental health research lead.
He continues to work with King’s College London on research into Armed Forces mental health, including both serving personnel and veterans. Next month, he will be awarded a Presidential Medal for his work as the Royal College of Psychiatrists Lead on Military and Veterans Health. He also works closely with Armed Forces and veteran’s charities, he is a board member for the Forces in Mind Trust and a Trustee with Walking with the Wounded.
Professor Greenberg said: “I am looking forward to the opportunity to share and discuss our research at the conference. It is important to support those who have served their country and doing so in the right, evidence-based way.
“The work I shall present has great relevance not just for the Armed Forces but also for other organisations that predictably place their personnel in highly challenging situations”.
